Dr. Ömer KARAHAN
Dr. Ömer Karahan, the first physician in Türkiye to transition from a medical career to healthcare administration, began his hospital management career in 1989. He held various senior positions at International Hospital, the first private hospital with the most advanced technology of its time, from its opening to its full capacity operation. Subsequently, he worked as a manager for three years during the restructuring process of American Hospital.
Having won a Health Management scholarship, he spent a year conducting studies at Houston Methodist Hospital Systems in the USA; he returned to Türkiye as both the Türkiye Consultant for The Methodist Hospital and the first Turkish Chief Physician of the American Hospital.
With his entrepreneurial vision, he founded MedNet, the first TPA (Third Party Management) company in the Turkish health insurance sector, in partnership with foreign companies, and quickly led it to sector leadership as its general manager. Following MedNet's acquisition by the German reinsurance giant Munich Re, he has provided numerous strategic services to the healthcare sector through his consulting firm, ProCare.
Dr. Karahan continued his international career by supporting the establishment of NextCare in Beirut, while simultaneously teaching at Marmara University's Department of Health Management. He later assumed the role of General Manager of NextCare, based in the United Arab Emirates, and managed the company's sale process to the global giant Allianz.
Strategic Growth and Corporate Transformation
Following his return to Türkiye, he worked as a consultant within the Acıbadem Healthcare Group for many years; and until 2010, he served as the General Manager of Acıbadem Healthcare and Life Insurance Company and as a Member of the Executive Board responsible for Business Development at Acıbadem Healthcare Group. During this period, he led the massive growth process of Acıbadem Healthcare Group, expanding from 3 hospitals to 16 hospitals. Before joining the Group as a full-time executive, he provided strategic support to the Group President as a business development consultant between 1994 and 2003.
Dr. Karahan played a leading role in the negotiations and completion of the sale of Acıbadem Health Group to the private equity firm Abraaj for over one billion dollars.
Current Tasks and Initiatives
Dr. Karahan, currently the Managing Partner and Board Member of Genkord Biotechnology Inc., is also the Chairman of the Board of SolarBiz, a family-owned solar energy company, and MutluBiz, a fruit farm. He also serves on the boards of numerous other family-owned businesses.

Scholarships: The Methodist Hospital Systems Health Management Scholarship (1993-1994), Eisenhower Health and Finance Scholarship (1997).

International Contributions: Participated in the "Health Services in Transition – Türkiye Report" study prepared for the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000.

Education: He has taught as a visiting lecturer at Marmara and Bahçeşehir Universities.

Memberships: He has held memberships in the International Federation of Health Plans Council and in the field of Health Tourism within DEIK (Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey).

Honorary Roles: As Honorary President of the Brain Academy in Romania, he has lectured to healthcare administrators.
